Transition Summer Pieces to An on-trend Fall Wardrobe with Image Consulting Coach and Wardrobe Stylist
With fall around the corner, it’s time to get excited at the thought of cozy sweaters, fall colors, and pumpkin everything. Turning to our wardrobes, it’s also a time to transition summer pieces into easy, put-together ensembles to take pressure off of morning routines.
Reimagining Summer Staples
Comfy and easy to care for, jersey knit dresses are a staple of every summer wardrobe. Breathable fabrics like jersey knit keep us cool all summer long, but how do we make it work in the fall?
Grab a lightweight sweater and wear it over your favorite summer dress. Wrap a belt around the bottom of the sweater and blouse over, covering the belt if you choose. Add your boots, push up the sleeves to ¾ length and layer away with bracelets. Top it off with your favorite hat, and head out the door feeling comfortable and confident.
Layering Classic Pieces
An American classic, we all have our favorite t-shirts. Whether you’re rocking horizontal stripes or Def Leppard spirit, layering with a structured jacket, such as a blazer or moto jacket, will instantly elevate your ensemble and allow your unique personality to shine through.
Add a great pair of bootcut jeans as relief from our skinny jean days, and pair with your favorite sneakers for a day of running errands and, dare I say, grabbing coffee with your girlfriends for some shared laughs.
Color 101
Pairing colors can seem daunting for some of us, especially when it comes to transitioning from summer to fall. Toning down bright summer colors using neutral tones, such as cream, brown, and black can help balance out the color palettes of your ensembles without giving up color altogether.
Toning down not your scene? Opposing colors on a color wheel are considered complementary and can most definitely be worn together, weaving these colors harmoniously throughout your look.
Accessories Galore
It’s finally time to pull out your scarves, hats, bags, and jewelry from the back of your wardrobe to polish off any look from casual to formal.
What’s trending this fall to ensure your outfits are current? Think bedazzled, jeweled, and so much more! Metallics, bold hues, layered belts, and soft textures can be incorporated into most accessories. Have fun with these trends and make them your own.
Fun with Texture and Fabric
While cotton and other natural fabrics rule summer, no one can resist suede, leather, and soft textures in the fall. Switch out your denim shorts for straight-leg leather pants for an instant edge. From shearling jackets to suede shoes, this is a great way to transition from summer to fall.
