Holistic Wellness Coach Suggests Creativity to Keep Self-Care Fun this Fall

As we waltz into September and the easy breezy days of summer get replaced by responsibilities, schedules, and the realities of the school year, how can we keep our summer zen?  We know the basics - meditation, journaling, sleep, therapy, time with family - but what about incorporating a creative approach to self-care.

Here are a few ideas to add some fun to your Fall.

Redecorate

Sometimes with routines, or with the absence of vacations, things can begin to feel stale.  Novelty can bring a sense of freshness into your life, so why not experiment with feng shui, DIY decorations, or break out your fall colored blankets?

Draw inspiration from your top summer memory

Imagine a highlight reel of your past summer… What memory shines the brightest?  Think about the people you were around, the activities you were doing, the time of day, and the sights, sounds, and smells that were around you.  See if you can put your finger on what made the memory stand apart from the others, and then if you can bring some of the qualities that made that memory special into a planned Fall activity.

Try a new kind of exercise

We all know that exercise does wonders for our bodies and minds.  You may have your go-to routine, or may be in a fitness rut at the moment.  An interesting way to boost your endorphins and keep your summer glow is to try moving your body in a new way.  Always wanted to be a dancer?  See if you can recruit a friend for a salsa lesson.  More interested in becoming a kung fu master?  See if there’s a trial class at a martial arts studio you could test out.

Take yourself on a date

The zen that we feel across summer months may come from having less to think about and juggle leaving more headspace for ourselves. Set aside intentional time to disconnect from the busyness around you and reconnect with yourself. Try to plan a long bath after your kids are in bed or an evening out to that restaurant you love.
